Virginia Dale

Virginia Dale is a Corporate Fellow and Leader of the Landscape Ecology & Regional Analysis Group in the Environmental Sciences Department at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Her Ph.D. is in Mathematical Ecology from the University of Washington. In 2006, she was selected as the Distinguished Scientist at ORNL.
Dr. Dale's primary research interests are in environmental decision making, ecological effects indicators, landscape ecology, and ecological modeling. She has extensive experience applying computational methods to assess land-use and global changes utilizing simulations linked to GIS.
Dr. Dale has authored more than 170 published articles, is coauthor of the book Road Ecology, and has edited five other books. She has served on national scientific advisory boards for five federal agencies (the EPA and the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Energy, and Interior).
Dr. Dale chaired the US Regional Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (2000-2003) and the US National Committee of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE). She recently chaired the EPA Science Advisory Board's Hypoxia Advisory Panel, and is lead author of the book Hypoxia in the Northern Gulf of Mexico, which is currently under review at Springer.
Dr. Dale is also is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Environmental Management and serves on the Editorial Board of three other journals.
