The Society for Mathematical Biology Annual Meeting and Conference, July 25-28, 2012

Call for Abstracts

Abstract Submission Deadline Extension: Abstract submission for minisymposia talks and contributed oral presentations is now closed. The deadline for abstract submission for poster presentations has been extended until June 15, 2012. Abstracts submitted for Contributed Oral presentations by March 30 will be given priority. Those received after March 30 and by April 18 will be considered for acceptance as an oral presentation, if time is available on the schedule. There will be an Undergraduate Poster Session, and we encourage advisers for summer project undergraduates to have their students submit abstracts of their intended work for the summer, by the June 15 deadline. We have maintained student registration rates at very low levels to encourage student participation.

Email acceptance of abstracts submitted by the March 30 deadline will still be made by April 13 and acceptance for abstracts submitted by the April 13 deadline will be made by April 27. Extended abstracts are requested, up to one page in length. Accepted abstracts will be included in an online conference compendium.

Descriptive flyer

All contributed talks will be 20 minutes long with an additional 3 minutes for questions and 2 minutes for movement between sessions. In general, participants may not give more than one presentation. An exception may be made for individuals who wish to give one presentation on research in mathematical biology and one on educational issues; however, at most one of these will be approved for an oral presentation. Computer projector facilities will be available for talks. Posters will be displayed for a full day, with a 1½ hour scheduled period for discussions with presenters. Additional information about oral and poster presentations will be posted by April 1.

After reading this page carefully and preparing your abstract, click on the link at the bottom of the page to access the online abstract submission form. The following information will be be requested:

Corresponding Author: name, email adress, postal address

Name of Presenting Author

Affiliation of Presenting Author

Preference for oral or poster presentation. If more abstracts are submitted for oral presentations than there are available time-slots in the program, those not selected to be presented orally will be considered for poster presentations. Speakers whose talks will be presented at one of the conference's Minisymposia should select "oral" presentations when submitting their abstracts.

Keywords. Choose one or more of the following keywords to facilitate assignment to an appropriate conference session: Agriculture, Behavior, Bioengineering, Biofluid dynamics, Bioimaging, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Cancer, Cancer therapy, Cardiac physiology, Cell biology, Computational biology, Developmental biology, Ecology, Ecosystems, Education, Epidemiology, Evolutionary biology, Genetics, Genomics, Immunology, Molecular biology, Morphology, Neurobiology, Physiology, Population biology, Population genetics, Regulatory networks, Spatial ecology, Systems biology, Tumor modeling

Upload PDF file of abstract. You will also be asked to upload a pdf version of your abstract along with the submission form. Abstract PDFs must not exceed one 8.5"x11" page in length, with 1" margins on top, bottom, and sides, in single-spaced, one-column format in "Times New Roman" or similar serif font with a font-size of 10 points for text, 12 points for title. Abstracts must be in English and must include the title, author(s), and author affiliations (institution, location, country). Title and name of presenting author should be in bold. Click here for an example of a suitable abstract PDF. Follow this example for formatting of title, author(s) names and affiliations, and paragraph style (blank line between paragraphs, no indentation). If you are using LaTex, click here for a simple latex example abstract file. Include the name of the presenting author in the filename: Lastname_Firstname.pdf (no white space or special characters). File size should not exceed 2MB.
