Chat from May 3rd webinar: How do you know when is the right time to use qualitative vs. quantitative data collection? How do you get program participants to buy in to the time required to do interviews and focus groups? College students can be particularly difficult to engage, do you have any tips for encouraging them to do interviews and/or focus groups? Can you move the volume control item? It is blocking content on the slides There is a volume control icon on the middle of the screen. It is interfering with text. I'm not sure if it is just my screen, but there is a box with a volume icon appearing over the slides and obscuring some of the view. Am I the only one seeing a volume icon in the middle of the screen? No, I am too. We have tried to remove this but to do so I think will require restarting and we prefer to go on for now. I thought it was just me We will post the slides after the webinar so that you can see it without the little mute icon Thank you! That will be great. When selecting "clipart" images for slides for a webinar like this - BE VERY CAREFUL - who is included in those images and HOW are they presented?  That conveys a lot.  And as an INCLUDES project - it is absolutely imperative - not to portray ONLY one race of people in the same type of role/position. Where did these three I come from - is it from research on doing these studies or are these just someone's ideas? We are certainly cognizant of the concern to be broadly representative - so we appreciate your comment about the cartoon characters That picture of students doesn't look like REAL students from the experience being described - it looks like models - I’ll check where these came from - I think they are not from the schools involved as that would require parents’ approval of the use of their image. I’ll ask during the question period. THX - But I don't need to know - but the casual plopping in of images obtained from online conveys A LOT about what is REALLY happening on a project that is supposed to be critically addressing long-standing inequities. Some images are from the actual participants. For those with participants under 18yrs. they are purchased photos. Has the speaker read the works by Edward Tufte?  His work is PHENOMENAL about displaying quantitative and qualitative data. Is mind mapping and ripple mapping the same? Seems very similar. Could you describe reflective journaling? Is it guided or more open ended? I'm glad to know you are also a Tufte fan!! How do you incorporate all three I's when the evaluation budget does not account for that much time/cost? Any recommendations on how to prioritize these layers of qualitative data? My question: can you provide some insights into ways you balance the expense of qualitative data collection (especially observation) against the desire to collect rich data? How might mind mapping relate to the logic model that is being used? My challenge is knowing effective and proven ways to analyze qualitative data; does any of the 3 Is described in this presentation address analysis of the data, or they only focus on study design and data collection? Curious, is STEMM a common American term? I found it in the UK Lit I have seen them that in the UK too I think that adding the medicine is a way to delineate Medicine from Math  Thank you STEAM = the "A" can be a catch all for various humanities and arts  STEM is a common term or trend in PK12 education in the US Thank you again for your excellent moderation!  I am glad to have encountered another Tufte fan. Great information! Thank you! I could not see the complete slides, they were cut off Otherwise, great presentation Thank you! Thank you! Great Job!
