14:12:09 to All panelists : Sondra, is this 2016 > 2017 or is this % that use for news vs just for social reasons? 14:13:28 to All panelists : Are we automatically on mute? Thanks! 14:13:45 From Louis J Gross : This graph concerned just those included in the survey who said they received news from the various social media platforms - Lou 14:14:18 From Louis J Gross : Yes you are automatically muted - you can interact with us by chat only - Lou 14:16:56 to All panelists : Will we receive a copy of the slides and a transcript of the presentation? 14:18:10 From Louis J Gross : We are recording this and will post the transcript as well as the slides and video on the website for this project 14:18:13 From Louis J Gross : http://www.nimbios.org/IncludesConf/ 14:18:46 From Louis J Gross : We will send all who registered with a link when these are posted 14:19:17 to All panelists : Thank you! 14:21:02 to All panelists : what an awesome webinar! use of real projects, visual organizers or rubrics, and being able to think, apply, and practice should be REQUIRED for all webinars! so so helpful! will the audio and slides be posted on trellis after???? 14:21:58 From Louis J Gross : We will post the link for all the material to various Trellis groups associated with INCLUDES - Lou 14:22:38 to All panelists : I haven't heard back from my attempt to join Trellis. 14:22:57 : Maybe a blog would be the best way to share the reflections? 14:23:11 : Vision: To connect school employees to each other. To connect to prospective, current, and past PIPES participants. To inform the community/create awareness of PIPES activities. 14:23:35 to All panelists : How about a Facebook group? 14:23:40 : VISION is to help the participating graduate students improve their own skills by learning about other students’ experiences 14:24:01 to All panelists : Wht about using bots to populate the media platform - sometimes it is challenging to get enough momentum 14:24:25 : Idea using Facebook (since so many people are using it): (1) Create a 'secret'/closed group on FB for PIPES for grad students, employees, admin, etc. so that they can share ideas and discussions. (2) Also create a public FB page for the general public to follow. Admins in the secret group can choose highlights out of the FB private group to post publicly (since high school students and privacy matters may be an issue) 14:24:35 : value measurement could be user-generated comments on the facebook groups or twitter feed? 14:24:44 to All panelists : what do you think about the ethics of using bots drawing from a database of "posts" to populate the plaatform when the real people are lagging 14:24:46 : VITALITY - by inviting teachers, administrators and parents to contribute, you expand the network and take the pressure off the key players 14:25:29 to All panelists : Invite parents to one of the weekly visits, take photos and post on Facebook group 14:27:14 to All panelists : Is the 3V model exclusive to PiPES or is this a national model? 14:28:09 From Louis J Gross : The 3V model is not limited to PIPES at all - it is our suggested framework for evaluation for these types of projects using social media - Lou 14:32:42 : Does the 3Vs model take into account the steps to maturing of the community in the social media channel? e.g. PIPES students might start out by reading posts and only later in the project begin commenting on other posts as they gain comfort. If you only measure likes / comments don’t you miss the silent readers? 14:34:24 From Louis J Gross : This is an excellent point - we have not mentioned dynamics of measures for impact of social media as a project matures - it is another aspect of measures. - Lou 14:35:20 to All panelists : Do you have some slides that address age of users? No young teen I know uses fb. 14:36:04 to All panelists : Targetting the audiences by user charateristics 14:36:51 From Louis J Gross : There are certainly data on this but we have not included it in our slides. Lou 14:38:07 : Thanks! Very interested to hear more about that at some point too! 14:38:11 to All panelists : What about restriction within institutions on who can post on the "official" sites. Lots of institutions have LONG review annd approval chains that content has to go through to get permissions to post anything anywhere 14:38:53 : Me too! 14:39:33 to All panelists : Has anyone used podcasts and how was your success? 14:40:19 to All panelists : To capture silent readers, perhaps tracking the number of views of the content as well may help. Posts in FB Groups, for example, actually track the number of views, and that number of views can be seen by everyone in the group. This number can be measured over time, increasing views/post and number of comments or likes/posts. 14:40:35 to All panelists : Just my thoughts to the panelists! 14:40:36 : When evaluating our social media, how do we judge what is “enough”? Should our goal be for our quantities (likes, follows, page views, etc.) to continually increase, or at some point is it ok if the numbers plateau because that’s a solid audience? 14:43:07 : Do you consider the data from the Pew Research Center the best source for understanding which platforms are being used and by whom? 14:44:05 : Is this data on usage collected manually? e.g counting FB likes on posts or are projects using tools such as FB insights? If it’s manual, are there any shared spreadsheets or other common resources so data might be compared across projects? 14:45:42 : we have a podcast! we’re up to a couple hundred downloads per episode… 14:46:49 to All panelists : I'd love to hear more about using podcasting - that is a very specific kind of media. The speed needs to be UP and it is very personality driven. 14:47:04 to All panelists : I am a huge fan of social media, particularly for its accessible analytical tools. But building a community can take YEARS. Do you think NSF is content to see engagement numbers that are on the low end? e.g., a closed group may have only 15 people, and a post may get only 5 likes and 2 comments, which is good relative to the group size, but not something that sounds so amazing in a proposal. 14:48:49 to All panelists : Is NISER available for hire to help build a social media evaluation plan? 14:51:41 : Our podcast is Sustainable Nano (produced by the Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology). Interview format on a wide range of topics, sometimes only vaguely related to center research. 14:52:37 : I'm already making a 3V model for you, Sondra 14:52:38 to All panelists : the speed relates to the speed of the talking on podcasts - it is faster than "normal" speaking 14:53:37 : Not OF Sondra just FOR Sondra LOL 14:55:13 to All panelists : Thank you! 14:55:25 : Thank you! 14:55:26 : Thank you! 14:55:27 : Thanks all! 14:55:27 to All panelists : Thanks! 14:55:27 to All panelists : Thank you, this was great! 14:55:38 : Thanks, all!
